Duties and Responsibilities

I. Organisational Context: The Un Country Team (UNCT) is led by the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the representative of the UN Secretary-General in a given country. The UNCT ensures interagency coordination and decision-making at the country level. The goal is to plan and work together, as part of the Resident Coordinator system, to ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government, including the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) — which guides the UN country team’s development programme cycle, in joint agreement with the host government. The UNSDCF 2024–2028 for Mauritius and Seychelles outlines the strategic direction of the UN’s partnership with both countries, aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UNCT composed of 25 UN agencies, funds, and programmes, regardless of their physical presence, brings together diverse global expertise to support the development priorities of Mauritius, and Seychelles. In the case of Mauritius and Seychelles, the UNRC Office operates with a multi-country mandate. The main office is based in Mauritius, with oversight extending to Seychelles. Given the importance of clear and impactful communication, there is a growing need for strengthened communications and advocacy support across both countries. To coordinate joint communications, the UN Communications Group (UNPCG), made up of representatives from various UN agencies, is responsible for implementing a Joint Communications Strategy. This strategy aims to foster inter-agency collaboration, ensure coherent and consistent messaging, and enhance the visibility and transparency of the UN’s work. It emphasizes norm- and issue-based communications to amplify the impact of the UNCT’s activities. The Communications and Advocacy Individual Contractor (IC) will play a vital role in highlighting the work and impact of the UNCT, producing strategic content and high-quality materials that effectively communicate results of the UNCT. The IC will report to the Head of the UNRC Office (based in Mauritius) and the Chair of the UNPCG. II. Objectives of the Assignment The IC will provide communications and advocacy support to: ? Enhance visibility of the UNSDCF and UNCT activities in Mauritius and Seychelles. ? Strengthen public awareness and stakeholder engagement through compelling storytelling and targeted outreach. ? Ensure strategic alignment of messaging across various media platforms. III. Scope of Work / Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, the IC will: Content Development ? Produce and edit stories, human-interest features, speeches, blogs, and newsletters showcasing the UN’s work in both countries. ? Draft press releases, media advisories, and op-eds. ? Develop and script content for videos, podcasts, and digital campaigns. ? Assist in writing and editing reports and publications in line with UN branding and tone. Advocacy and Outreach ? Advise on messaging and branding to ensure consistency across UNCT initiatives. ? Support the design and implementation of joint campaigns to highlight key international days. ? Collaborate with UN agencies and partners to identify and promote success stories. ? Engage with local media, influencers, and content creators to boost outreach. Multimedia and Digital Presence ? Create content for UN Mauritius and Seychelles social media platforms and websites. ? Support production of short videos, animations, and infographics for use online and in public presentations. ? Coordinate visual documentation of launches, and events.
